Norwegian Cowboy

Svein Thorstensen

How it all started

Svein ThorstensenMy name is Svein Thorstensen and I'm born in Larvik town in Norway. Today I'm 54 years old. I have worked at a factory which produce zinkdust for 23 years.
I've been outplaying for 40 years, in weddings, parties and restaurants. Sometimes with other bands but also single. I'm playing keyboard and have my own equipment.
Since my childhood I've allways liked countrymusic. When I became a Christian I made other kind of music because I in a way was forced to stop making countrysongs with no Christian content.

A couple of years ago I became very sick and came in a very deep depression.I almost commited suicide. I expected help from my Christian friends in Larvik, but they never showed up unless 3 people. During that time I made 15 new countrysongs. During the time I was a Christian I had made 20 countrysongs, so I had 35 countrysongs.

I was searching for help, and when I not get it from those I expected, I went to the Internett. There it was a site called Facebook, and I logged on. It didn't take long time until I had many friends, mostly from Canada. I came in contact with a very special woman called Dianne. A very warm and kind woman. Our conversations became more and more deeply, special about love and living. I told her that I made countrysongs and that I allready had 35 of them. At that moment the wheel began to role. She had contact with several countryartists in British Columbia, Canada. Soon I got an e-mail from Dianne who asked me if I was interrested comming to her place, Dawson Creek and have some conserts there. I certainly said yes, and I imidiately planed a trip.going there at 27. February. Later on I got more e-mails from Dianne telling me that it also was other places which wanted a visit of me. Totaly it became 15 conserts. I told her that the limit was set. I had a playback-CD with my songs with me to Canada so the band who should play for me (proffesional musicians and singers Dianne had contacted and would like to play for me) could practise from Thursday to Monday. During that time I was with Dianne and her friends showing me Dawson Creek and areas around. At my first consert I was very nervous because I had never song among so many people, but after my first song who became very popular (Jealousy) people applauded, shouted more, more more, and whistled. My next song was "Red Roses To Dianne". Dianne had heard it before and was honored that I dedicated a song to her.(That song comes in my next CD who is called Red Roses To Dianne, and is in sale during autumn). Why I called it that, is because she was my first best friend and saved me from commiting suicide, and the first thing I gave her was red roses. While singin' it I saw Dianne crying beside the stage. That song became also very popular and still is. During my conserts I became(and still is) a very good friend to a musician named Sonny. He was unik at all kind of stringinstruments. When we was around we allways had the same room together. He also had a musicstudio and invited me to record my songs there. We did that when my conserts was over.

Sonny told me that countryclubs in British Columbia had decided to give me a countrystar reward because of all those songs (35) I had made and because that I never covered others. I should receive that in Fort Saint John on my consert. I was flattered about that. We arrived Fort Saint John and after singing two songs (Jealousy and It's over) the major in town came up and gave me the reward. I golden watch with 40 diamonds. The pressure in my eyes became too big and I began crying. I thought of all those years (40) I had been playing and working with music. At last it payed off. In secret Sonny, the band and I had decided to sing a very special song to Dianne at that place. It is country wedding song made and song by Jim Mc Craw called "My best friend". After a short brake, comming to myself, I nicked to Sonny and we began. The audience seems to knew it and began to applaud. Dianne stood there with a surpiced face when I said while the band playing: "This song is dedicated to my very best friend Dianne, standing beside the stage. Can you please come up Dianne and stand beside me while I'm singing it?" She came up, and I told the audiense that this woman saved me from commiting suicide. Then I began singing. It didn't take long time before she understood and laid her head towards my shoulder and began crying. The audiense became extatic and applauded and shouted: "Dianne,Dianne, Dianne. She began crying loud while big tears was down her cheek. When we finished the song, Dianne gave me a long, big kiss on my mouth while crying. The audience applauded and shouted: Dianne and Svein, Dianne and Svein. Now it was my turn to cry. I crushed Dianne towards me and we hold eachother for a long time. I said to the band that we had to play the song "I wants more of your love to me".(That song is also comming on my next CD).

We celebrated my success for two days after finishing conserts and recording.
Now I'm back in Norway and I'm very popular in British Columbia, Canada and my songs as well.
All the songs I had made and will make in the future is from my life!
